Supporting Small Businesses: Discovering The Heritage Forge
A Little Western Craftsmanship, a Lot of Heart
One of the things I love most about being a small business owner is discovering other small businesses that share the same passion for quality, craftsmanship, and keeping the spirit of the West alive.
Recently, I purchased hat branding tools from The Heritage Forge, and I couldn't be happier with the quality! I am currently in the process of incorporating these beautiful tools into my business, Western Border and Co, and I am excited to see how they will become part of my creative workshops and Western-inspired projects.
Meet Mike and Elise, the Family Behind The Heritage Forge
Based in Palmdale, California, The Heritage Forge is a family-owned business founded by Mike and Elise, a husband-and-wife team and proud parents of three little girls.
Mike started the business in 2013 while working full-time as a farrier. What began as a creative way to repurpose used horseshoes grew into something much bigger. Over the years, the business expanded from horseshoe art to branding irons and mini branding tools, with customer needs helping guide the way.
After Mike and Elise married in 2019, Elise joined him in managing the business, allowing Mike to continue focusing on the creative side.
I love hearing stories like theirs. Behind every small business is a person, a family, a dream, and countless hours of hard work. It's a reminder that when we purchase from a small business, we are supporting real people who have poured their hearts into what they do.
Quality That Speaks for Itself
As an artist and designer, I appreciate tools that are thoughtfully made and built to last. The quality of the branding tools I purchased from The Heritage Forge truly impressed me!
Their attention to detail, carefully designed brands, and commitment to durable craftsmanship reflect the kind of quality I value in my own business.
At Western Border and Co, I believe creating something with your own hands is about more than the finished product. It's about the experience, the creativity, and the joy of making something uniquely yours.
These branding tools are a wonderful addition to my creative journey, and I look forward to integrating them into my Western-inspired offerings. I can't wait to share more as everything comes together!
Why I Love Supporting Mom-and-Pop Shops
In a world where so much is mass-produced, I believe there is something special about supporting independent businesses. When you shop small, you help families pursue their dreams, support American craftsmanship, and keep unique ideas alive.
The Heritage Forge shares a commitment to keeping jobs in America and providing customers with a personal, small-business experience. That means something to me.
As the owner of Western Border and Co, I know firsthand that building a business takes faith, perseverance, creativity, and a whole lot of hard work. Every order matters, and every customer who chooses to support a small business helps make that dream possible.
I believe we can all make a difference by being intentional about where we shop and by sharing the small businesses we discover along the way.
A Little More Western Creativity Is Coming!
I'm excited about this next step for Western Border and Co as I continue bringing new ideas, tools, and creative experiences into my business. My goal is to inspire others to slow down, explore their creativity, and enjoy the blessing of making something with their own hands.
If you love Western craftsmanship as much as I do, I encourage you to check out The Heritage Forge and learn more about Mike and Elise's story.

And remember, when you support a small business, you aren't just buying a product. You're helping someone build a dream.
