What does HonkyTonk Angels have to do with Western Border & Co?

I always think God puts people in front of your door step that you need to know about. It was such a  blessing to have Bernie Nelson a famous song writer and singer come into my life and introduce his wonderful book HonkyTonk Angels. I think that there was a HonkyTonk Angel working their magic between us.

Bernie’s book really hit home as an Artist/Designer point of view. I have always believe that God and the Angels are around us all the time and gives us the tools and the gifts to create something special for this world to see or hear. I pretty much think that is how my designs come about in my products and that is how Bernie explains it in his book how great songs come about with help of a HonkyTonk Angel.

His book is full of delightful stories of how great songs, songwriters and singers come together with a divine intervention behind it. I truly believe that God and Angels work behind the sense in everything we do in life. You just have to take the first step and they will guide you along the way. It might take you a little longer to get where you are suppose to be. But with persistence, passion, patients and God’s timing everything comes the way it’s suppose too.

Some songs that might have been written awhile back and haven’t been published yet, just might need to find the right home and the right person to sing it, for it to give us meaning and purpose in that special moment in time. It’s all about those HonkyTonk Angels at work.

This book really opened up my eyes about how some of these great country songs came about. And how great songwriters and singers come together to create the magic of a great song.

Bernie was so gracious and took the time to answer some of my questions:

Bernie I know that his book has been in the process for years. How did you come up with this idea of writing this book?

“After storing up years and years of unbelievable stories on how songs became classic country songs, the idea of putting them into a book has been around about 10 years.”

This book hits home for many singer-songwriters . What would be your advice for them wanting that big break? That big awww moment.

“A song is only as good as its  melody, its originality and its ability to draw people to it.”

If you could go back in time, would you change anything in your life as a singer-songwriter?

“If I could go back and redo my earlier songwriting career, I would have wrote a lot more songs.3 songs a day is a good thing when you are new to songwriting. Volume creates quality by means of eliminating unnecessary lyrics.”

“Editing, editing editing is the key to great songs. Step outside of your ego and find the weak links in the song. Why would Blake Shelton cut it. What would turn him off from the song or where in the song would you lose him.”

“Persistence and learning to trust your instincts on a song idea and also when it comes to pitching the song.”

Here is a little bio of Bernie Nelson

Bernie Nelson is one of the A-list “go-to-guys” for good songs. With more than 25 million records sold. His songs have appeared on projects recorded by the likes of Kenny Chesney, Chris Ledoux, Wyonna, Conway Twitty, Randy Travis, Kris Kristofferson and many more.

For his full bio just go to his website at: http://www.bernienelson.com/bio/

You can find his signed book and CD on his website: http://bernienelson.com/

His latest CD is Whiskey and Water

Please note this are my true words and feelings about this book. And I was not paid in anyway to write this article.

Hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did writing it

Western Border Grandma from Texas shared this with us.

We were so excited to receive this special order from this first time Grandma (Debbie Johnson) in Texas. She was so delightful to talk to on the phone.  Her spirits were so up beat, even though Texas was hit by Hurricane Harvey. We really enjoy having her on our facebook fanpage!

She told me how excited she is to have her first grandson Kyle, and he is now one month old. We offered to do a custom order of one of our Rodeo Starter Number with her first grand babies name on it.  We normally don’t do this, but just once and a while we love to make our Western Border fans happy.

While we were talking to her, she told me how she altered a song for her kids and now she sings it to her new grand baby.

Though Hush little baby don’t you cry.
Grandmas gonna sing you a lullaby.
If this lullaby won’t work , grandmas gonna buy you a mockingbird
If that mockingbird won’t sing, grandmas gonna buy you a diamond ring.
If that diamond ring turns brass, grandmas gonna buy you looking glass.
If that looking glass gets broke
Grandmas gonna buy you a billy goat.
If that billy goat won’t pull
Grandmas gonna buy you a cart and bull
If that cart and bull turn over
Grandmas gonna buy you a dog named Rover.
If that named Rover won’t play
Grandmas gonna buy you a Chevrolet
If that Chevrolet won’t run
Grandmas gonna buy you a BB gun
If that BB gun won’t shoot
Grandmas gonna buy you a bathing suit
If that bathing suit don’t fit
Grandmas gonna have a conniption fit.

We are sending Debbie and her grand grandson and the rest of the family lots of greetings from Colorado and we are praying for everyone that has been affected by hurricane Harvey.

Easton lost his dear sweet Pony Bo, and guess what Western Border and Co did next

We received a cute photo from Grandma on our facebook fan page yesterday. Unfortunately, we found out that this cute boy Easton and his cousin Kopelyn lost their dear sweet pony BO to heaven a week ago. Our heart just broke in two that day.

Grandma said he still gets upset when he can’t find him to feed, but he is doing better now. She said he was the best pony in the World. And they are searching for another one like him. She has been distracting them which has helped and right now they are riding Grandma’s mare.

So, we decided we will send them a special package from Pony Bo and a little letter so that there grieving might be a little easier. We know how hard it is to lose an animal you love. Our company is about caring and having a heart. We take pride in our products, and we try to always give back to our fans and customers in a big way.

Here is what we sent them:

Here is what we wrote in the letter:

Bo is missing you both right now and he said he is always with you in your hearts. He also wanted to mention that he is enjoying the green pastures in heaven and that he is running around with other ponies and having a lot of fun. And of course his is neighing a lot, we guess you know what that means. He also wanted us to send you these clothes so that you wouldn’t forget him and he sending you both lots of love.

We hope that Grandma will keep us updated on how they are doing, and if they have found another Pony for Easton and Kopelyn.

What does The Pioneer Woman and Caroline owner of Western Border and Co have in common?

Guess your wondering what Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) and I have in common, if you are reading this post. Well, we both our country girls at heart, we love family, we are unique and special in our own way and we love to cook.

I have purchased two of Ree Drummond (The Pioneer Woman) cook books and I just love them. On my to do list, is to get the rest of her cook books and visit her store The Pioneer Woman Mercantile. That would just be the highlight of this country girl’s life to take a trip to Pawhuska, Oklahoma.

Even though my father is a German master chef and I have a lot of recipes, experience and ideas of what to cook. I am always looking for simple and easy recipes that fit into my busy lifestyle of being a mother, a wife, fashion designer, and a business owner. I love home cooked meals and cooking from fresh ingredient’s. To see a smile on my husband’s and son’s faces when they eat a good meal, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. I swear that my son’s is like a gourmet judge, he saviors every bite he eats, which let’s me know I am doing something right. He doesn’t care to eat at fast food places.

I even got some designing inspiration from her husband the Marlboro Man (Mr. Drummond) and designed a roper creeper and boots for all those cute baby boy cowboys out there.

So, what is your favorite recipe from The Pioneer Woman? Leave a comment and tell me below. I always love to hear from my fans.

Sending you lots of blessings from this Country Girl

Vintage Baby Shower Card

Baby Shower Card

Spring is coming, a time for renewal, rebirth, and adorable babies! Here is a sweet vintage card that is perfect for a baby shower or a congratulations card.

Note that one of the key techniques on this card is sewing. I had never tried sewing on cards before, but man is it easy! Always experiment on a scrap piece of paper first, to make sure that you have the machine configured properly, the right color of thread, and the stitch set that you want. If you don’t have a sewing machine, or it’s too intimidating, there are several other options to get that stitched look!

  • Draw stitched lines using a white gel pen, or a pen of your choice
  • Rub-ons come in a variety of stitch patterns and are easy to apply
  • Stamps can also come in stitch patterns, and you can use whatever color of ink you want
  • Stickers also exist and often are transparent so that they don’t cover up the design beneath the stitching
  • The Sew Easy tool is a great way to punch perfectly-spaced holes that you can then stitch using a needle and floss. It’s very affordable and comes in a wide variety of stitch patterns

Card Inside:

Supplies:

  • Light pink cardstock
  • Patterned paper – Melissa Frances 6×6 paper pad
  • Cream lace ribbon
  • Pink pompom trim – Melissa Frances
  • Stickers:
    • baby – Melissa Frances 5th Avenue sticker book
    • Sweet Memories – K & Company
  • Pearls — KaiserScrapbook and Creative Imaginations
  • Sewing machine
  • White thread
  • Foam adhesive squares
  • Snail adhesive

Directions

Card outside:

  1. Cut pink cardstock base to 8.5 x 6.25 inches, score at 4.25 of the 8.5 length and fold in half.
  2. Cut a piece of the patterned paper to 6 x 4 inches.
  3. Sew a zigzag pattern using white thread around the border of the paper. To prevent going off the edge, stop the machine when you get to the edge, lift the foot, turn the paper 90 degrees, drop the foot and continue.
  4. Trim a piece of cream lace ribbon to 4 inches and adhere to the left side of the card.
  5. Trim a piece of pink pompom trim to 3.5 inches and adhere to the left side of the card, slightly overlapping the bottom edge of the cream lace ribbon.
  6. Put one thin foam square on the scalloped baby sticker, on the upper right corner, and a small glue dot on the bottom left corner, and adhere slightly overlapping the top edge of the cream lace ribbon.
  7. Adhere the “Sweet Memories” sticker over the top left corner of the scalloped baby sticker.
  8. Place three light blue pearls on the paper: one at the bottom corner of the two stickers, and two in the upper right corner.
  9. Adhere the whole panel to the pink cardstock base using foam adhesive.

Card inside:

  1. Cut a strip of patterned paper (or use a scrap you already cut off) to 1 x 6 inches and adhere to the bottom of the card inside.
  2. Run one zigzag stitch horizontally along the top line of the patterned paper to ground the paper to the card.
  3. Add three pearls to the upper right of the card inside—one light blue, one light pink, one cream.

So grateful that my girlfriend Jill gave me this post to share with you.

Flower tips for your wedding

wedding-771513_1920

First of all if you are reading this post, CONGRATULATIONS you are getting married and we are so happy for you.

Here are some ideas and tips that you might like to have before getting your flowers for the wedding:

-Check with your venue for any florist recommendation they might have. For example I know that the Ellis Ranch Event Center & Wedding Park has vendors listed that they recommend

-Schedule interviews with several florists that have your kind of style you want. (Styles: Classic, Natural, Modern, Playful, Romantic, or Country)

-Look through Magazines, Pinterest, etc for style of flowers and color theme you would like to have at your wedding

-Schedule interviews with several florists that have your kind of style you want

-Make a comparison sheet of their prices, who can work on your budget, and if they are available on the dates you have your wedding on.

-Try to make your color theme work through out your wedding (such as bridesmaid dresses, reception, etc)

-Figure out what types of flowers are available. And what will work with an outdoor or indoor wedding. Usually seasonal flower are less expensive too

-Be upfront with your florist about your budget. It will help you and your florist to come up something that you both will be happy with

– Giving your florist pictures or ideas of what your bridesmaids, grooms, in-laws, and parents are wearing, will also help on your decision on which flowers to choose.

-depending what time of the year you are getting married, beware of certain fragrances that can be overwhelming

– Ask what are your delivery requirements and any extra fees

-Look at their portfolio is a must in my book

-deposit fees or cancelation policy

-any guarantees
